Bangalore Police are Synonymous for Flexibility

I just parked my car at office parking lot and was crossing the road. In the meanwhile a traffic policemen an SI and a Constable took Four Maggi packets as bribe from a tempo guy who did not have money to bribe these police in cash. How flexible!!!

Then once in office, using Yahoo new features, I wrote about this on my Facebook wall. One should only see how many people commented with their experiences. Then I felt I am wrong. Its not only Bangalore police that are so flexible, rather most Indian traffic policemen are like that.

If you have a facebook account, you might want to visit my homepage and read the entire story.

It really hurts

Recently I was typing my comments on a news article on NDTV website. There was a word challenge to post and one of the words was "pakistani". I felt so bad to type it. I wrote to those who are responsible for this software and also to NDTV.

Why India is not a great nation??? Something to Ponder

Major General Mrinal Suman, AVSM, VSM, PhD, commanded an Engineer Regiment on the Siachen Glacier, the most hostile battlefield in the world. A highly qualified officer (B Tech, MA (Public Administration), MSc (Defence Studies) and a Doctorate in Public Administration) he was also the Task Force Commander at Pokhran and was responsible for designing and sinking shafts for the nuclear tests of May 1998. This following article has been written by him and was posted on Sify website on 13th October.

As India celebrates 62 years of Independence, one tends to wonder: what makes nations great? Why is the US an undisputed world power? Why has Britain remained undefeated for centuries? Why has India succumbed to foreign rule so often? Why is India still struggling with internal dissensions and fissiparous forces? What does India lack?

A chance meeting with a British army veteran in a train from Edinburgh to London proved highly revealing. According to him, the secret of British success lies in the public support and respect extended to the soldiers.

`Soldiers` loyalty to the nation and readiness for the supreme sacrifice are driven less by material considerations and more by an overwhelming urge to earn love and respect of their countrymen. A grateful nation`s recognition of their contribution to national security acts as the strongest motivator,` he declared.

`Britain never forgets its war heroes. Every major landmark in London is named after distinguished soldiers and not politicians,` he pointed out proudly. To prove his point further, he recalled, `Before World War II, it was not uncommon to see placards hanging outside some restaurants in Paris which read `Dogs, lackeys and soldiers not allowed`. On the other hand, even pregnant women used to get up and offer seats to soldiers in London buses. When the war broke out, France capitulated in no time while Britain remained undefeated.`

In an article written two days before the swearing-in of US President Barack Obama, his wife Michelle devoted 515 out of 863 words to the soldiers and their families. `So as I watch Barack take that oath, I`ll be thinking especially about those members of our American family who stand guard across the world and the loved ones who await their safe return... My husband and I are deeply grateful for the sacrifices that these families make to protect all American families. And we join them -- today and every day -- in praying for their loved ones and their safety. They don`t ask a lot in return, just a Washington that understands the challenges they face as part of their extraordinary commitment to our country... My husband understands that commitment, and he will ensure America lives up to its end,` she wrote.

`On Tuesday night, my husband and I will tuck in our daughters like we always do. Their bedrooms will be different, their home unfamiliar. But they will drift off to sleep protected by that same sacrifice that has kept all of our families safe and safeguarded our freedom for generations -- the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform and their families...For that, we could not be more grateful -- or more proud,` she added.

Now let us compare the above with the state of affairs in India. Can anyone recall a similar expression of sentiments by a national figure? Except for perfunctory platitudes on Independence Day, the Government has singularly failed to show compassion for the soldiers or tried to redress their genuine grievances. Apathetic political leadership and bureaucracy have made no attempt to understand the intensity of sense of hurt of the soldiers at their continued neglect and deliberate degradation.

Despite repeated representations, India still does not have a war memorial in the capital to honour independent India`s martyrs. India wants to ape the West in all sundry aspects, but not in matters that affect the well-being and morale of the armed forces. The Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington in Washington, the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and the Cenotaph in London are admired by all Indian visitors. Yet the absence of a suitable war memorial in New Delhi does not appear odd to them. Surprisingly, it does not even hurt the conscience of the nation. There is no other country that can be so apathetic to the memory of thousands of soldiers who have laid down their lives for its security.

Our Urban Development Ministry is more concerned with the vestiges of the British rule, and opposes a war memorial near India Gate in the name of preserving heritage. India Gate was built in the memory of soldiers who died in World War I during the British rule. India has fought five wars since Independence and over 40,000 soldiers have made the supreme sacrifice. Opposition to a war memorial on frivolous grounds is an affront to the memory of martyrs and displays shameless insensitivity to the feelings of those who have lost their family members. But then, no political leader or bureaucrat can be faulted for their inability to appreciate these issues as they never send their progeny to the military.

Look at the treatment meted out to India`s tallest military leader, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the architect of India`s greatest victory ever. It took the Government decades to determine and release his dues. India has not found him worthy of its highest national honour, the `Bharat Ratna`. No political leader thought it necessary to attend his funeral.

In Britain and the US, heads of the State with full national leadership would have made it a point to be present to pay a nation`s grateful respects.

Nelson`s Column at Trafalgar Square occupies the pride of place in London. London boasts of numerous statues of military heroes. No statues of political leaders are seen in the developed countries. India, on the contrary, has not found it necessary to honour Field Marshal Manekshaw`s memory whereas statues of political leaders (many with dubious credentials) dot New Delhi.

It will not be out of place here to recall the speech of President Obama at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention at the Phoenix Convention Center on 17 August 2009. He said, `You have fulfilled your responsibilities. And now a grateful nation must fulfill ours. Whether you've left the service in 2009 or 1949, we will fulfill our responsibility to deliver the benefits and care that you earned.` He described America`s commitment to its veterans as sacred bonds and a sacred trust Americans are honour bound to uphold.

`You have done your duty - to your fallen comrades, to your communities, to your country. You have always fulfilled your responsibilities to America. And so long as I am President of the United States, America will always fulfill its responsibilities to you`, he declared.

Contrast the above pledge and assurance with the apathetic treatment meted out to the ex-servicemen in India. In the recent past, India was witness to the most unfortunate sight of numerous military veterans returning their medals to the President to register their protest against the Government`s indifference to their pleas. Medals earned during active service are the proudest possession of soldiers, and their being driven to surrender them should have made the Government sit up and take note.

But true to its wont, it remained totally unconcerned and unmoved. Not a single Government leader or official has considered it necessary to talk to the protesting veterans to resolve the issues. This episode will certainly go down as a dark chapter in the history of Independent India.

India won the Kargil War of 1999 at a huge cost -- 527 officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives while over a 1,000 sustained battle injuries, many maimed forever. Yet, a senior Congress leader, Mr Rashid Alvi, had the impudence to state that commemoration was not warranted as the war took place due to an intelligence failure of the BJP Government. Every Indian soldier, both serving and retired, was aghast at the brazenness of the logic.

A notion has been deliberately perpetuated that the military must be kept under control through the bureaucracy lest it acquires political ambitions. Examples of Pakistan and Bangladesh are quoted to implant the fear of a military takeover in the minds of gullible and ignorant political leadership. A systematic and well planned strategy has been orchestrated to downgrade the military`s standing. The Sixth Central Pay Commission was the latest master stroke.

Although the public at large still holds the military in high esteem, a deliberate media campaign is being orchestrated by some elements with vested interests to show the military in a poor light. Instead of appreciating the military for initiating prompt disciplinary action against defaulters -- handful acts of misdemeanor and indiscretion in a 1.3 million strong organisation -- such cases are sensationalised to paint a negative picture of the services.

Historically, India does not have a culture of valuing its military. That is the reason that every invader succeeded in defeating and enslaving the sub-continent. If India survives today despite inept political leadership and the self-serving bureaucracy, it is only due to the unquestioned loyalty of the military and enormous sacrifices made by the soldiers.

Denigration of the military always proves fatal in the long run. Any country that discredits the status of its soldiers loses the moral right to expect them to die for its security. Great nations are distinguished by the esteem in which they hold their military.

No nation that stubbornly declines to honour the martyrs, respect the soldiers and care for the veterans can ever aspire to be counted amongst the great nations, slogans like `Mera Bharat Mahan` not withstanding.

Simple but INSPIRING Story

Once a Junior School teacher asked her students to bring some potatoes in a plastic bag to school. Each potato will be given a name of the person whom that child hates. Like this, the number of potatoes will be equal to the number of persons they hate. On a decided day the children brought their potatoes well addressed. Some had two, some had three and some had even five potatoes. The teacher said they have to carry these potatoes with them everywhere they go for a week. As the days passed the children started to complain about the spoiled smell that started coming from these potatoes. Also some students who had many potatoes complained that it was very heavy to carry them all around. The children got rid of this assignment after a week, when it got over.

The teacher asked, "How did you feel in this one week?" The children discussed their problems about the smell and weight. Then the teacher said, "This situation is very similar to what you carry in your heart when you don't like some people. This hatred makes your heart unhealthy and you carry that hatred in your heart everywhere you go. If you can not bear the smell of spoiled potatoes for a week, imagine the impact of this hatred that you carry through out your life, on your heart?"

MORALE:
OUR HEART IS A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN THAT NEEDS A REGULAR CLEANING OF UNWANTED WEEDS.

FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE NOT BEHAVED WITH YOU AS EXPECTED AND FORGET THE BAD THINGS. THIS ALSO MAKES ROOM AVAILABLE FOR STORING GOOD THINGS.

SRK’s Fiasco at Newark Airport: My take on it

One might think I am talking about something which is already forgotten. Rather I am trying to put a consolidated view here.
Primarily let’s talk about what people had to say. I am not going to discuss about those who were on the side of SRK. Let’s talk about those who were talking like netas. Below are some of those
1.       In India people got used to undue respect.
2.       In US no one cares if it’s Brad Pitt or Shahrukh Khan. They check everyone
3.       There is nothing wrong if the officer checks thoroughly to avoid another 9/11
4.       One fool also said: SRK was detained further because his luggage did not arrive in the same flight. What if there was a bomb in the luggage.
5.       If Jetli comes to India no one would even know.
Okay now my views, which is in a tone to reply to all the above said dudes.
In India, when you are traveling, your passport is checked and your luggage goes through a security check. Once this is done after you arrive in London the luggage again passes through scanners and you would go through a thorough check. Once I had forgotten to dump the water bottle I preserved from the connecting flight and my bag gave a sound. They checked everything even after removing the bottle. So finally you land up in the US. Once they swipe your VISA on the slot on their keyboard they get information of yours in full. Your finger prints which they took when they gave you VISA, your travel history and the types of VISAs you hold. The first time I went to US the officer asked me how long I am going to stay. Next time they never even bothered.
Now let’s talk about SRK’s visit. Once you swipe Shahrukh’s passport you will come to know that he had visited US several times. At least his jumbo passport would say it. Next his VISA type. It would have clearly told every piece and bit of information. So what do you want to know more about him? If one would still want to know, they would verify his local contacts. This would have given them the right information.
Now comes to the luggage, there were several instances I missed my connecting flights but my luggage did its own journey and arrived to my hotel after a day or two. So what? It’s screened dude. It’s clean. Then there is no point of detaining SRK on the grounds of baggage clearance.
Now answering to Q5: To the idiot who said so --- yes if JetLi comes to India no one would know. However, if Arnold Schwarzenegger or George Clooney or Bruce Willis comes to India, certainly there would be millions who knew them and at few thousands who would like to see them. Not knowing anyone mentioned above should be considered as a fault of the immigration officer. He is supposed to know minimum basics about the world. It’s like you are a programmer and you don’t know that a language called C# exists and it’s pronounced as C Sharp rather than C Hash.
Now the million dollar question:
Why was SRK detained???

Dr. Abdul Kalam - frisked at an Indian Airport - Insult???

Well, I was following this news since yesterday and hearing and reading a lot about it. In the process I read the same news from one of the News sites. I read comments there. There was one particular shameless fellow who said it is justified.

Well, according to me frisking our Ex-President and that too anyone of the likes of Dr.Kalam is just insulting the entire nation. No doubt about it. The airline should be punished severely for this act.

And for many other f**ls

Don't we know who created Taliban??? Did you not watch the movie NewYork??? Who is the one who ordered torture at Guantanamo bay? Are these the people who frisk Dr. APJ???
Its only that our government is lenient to all such stupid atrocities being committed against us.

Something very unusual - Indian Railways - Bangalore Majestic

I went to the Bangalore City Railway station to receive my relatives. Went very early, 6AM and as usual I carried three rupee coins to get the platform ticket. Took the ticket and moved to platform number 3 for the train. As I just went up the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) a middle aged person came and asked for ticket. I showed him. Then came others who did not have tickets and ...

In the meanwhile I just saw a lady in tears and waving to someone in a leaving train on the platform. She just walked up the stairs only to be questioned for a platform ticket. She is not the only one, there were many other who did not have a ticket.

The amazing part of this story is
1. The fine for not having a platform ticket is Rs.270. You know the ticket is only Rs.3.
2. None of the Ticket examiners took bribe. They made every one cough up the entire money.

The unfortunate part of the story is the girl who got caught was wearing a leather bag which had Microsoft written on it, wearing a Tommy Hilfiger watch and Nike sandals.

Everyone was checked and defaulters were made to pay. I really felt very happy to see such positive changes.

Mutalik - The Insane

Mutalik, an insult to his mother's womb, the Ravana for the women world, a woman abuser, an atheist who talks about Lord ShriRam, a rapist who talks about women protection, an unmarried who talks about Indian marriage system and culture, a weed sprung out of the bloody BJP government is trying to take control over our peaceful lives, to emphasize, OUR LIVES which we make by our earnings.

The so called Police which, to state in Indian terms, is wearing bangles and acting as puppies to the leaders is watching the show. Who on Earth is this Mutalik to take control on someone else lives?

If I remember well, around 5th or 6th class we had a lesson in the languages called "Sthree" which means women. The author explains the respect Indians give, not only to their own women, but women all over the world. Today we have people abusing women in all ways. Women are getting harassed at home, office, looked at/started at in a ugly fashion, molested, raped, murdered, abused verbally, physically; you just name the type of torture its done against women in India these days.

Man these days talks, only talks about equality of rights for women, however has never provided them to the gender. Be it Jesus Christ or Lord Gautam Budha or Lord Sri Krishna or Allah, there is one statement that everyone had to say in common,
do not do anything to a person which you cannot bear someone doing it to you.

Mutalik, a fool who is a celibate, what does he understand about a women? If one has a daughter and she is molested by Sri Rama Sene only then it is understood. What did this insane people learn from Gandhi? Did they forget the word Ahimsa??? These guys are no different to those terrorists who create chaos in our country.

Mutalik == Osama Bin Laden (or rather worse)

Now that we have come to a decision on what is Mutalik and his stupid organization is. However to quote, "Yetha Raja, thatha Praja" which means the people behave just as the king. Our Mr.Chief Minister is himself a pshyco not to object this crazy outfit.

Folks realize whom you are voting to. Lord Shriram protect us from your false followers. Help India to be a free and peaceful country.
